When most music fans think of Korean music they often think of Korean Pop music, with groups like BTS and Blackpink have dominated the American music scene in the past few years. The sound of K-Pop has developed over the past few decades following inspiration from the global Pop scene. However, K-Pop is not the only music scene in Korea that has been growing both locally and globally. Korean Hip Hop has made a large rise in the year 2026 gaining prominent fame due to artist Sik-K.
Sik-K, born Kwon Min-Sik, came back from mandatory military service just a few years prior and has begun to explore more of his Hip Hop side in his time back. The recent development of his label KC, which includes various talented artists like HAON and NOWIMYOUNG, has taken the Korean music scene by storm dropping roughly 5 albums over the past 2 years. Sik-K has been inspired by the American Hip Hop genre, "rage".
Outta Space by KC (SIK-K, HAON, JMIN)
Just as the American music scene has the Grammys, Korea has it's very own award shows. Korean Hip Hop specifically has it's own award show and it is referred to as the Korean Hip Hop Awards (KHA 2026) formally. During this year's event, Sik-K found himself winning three of the highest awards at the ceremony, winning Artist, Album, and Track of the Year.
It was absolutely no coincidence that he had won all three awards this year as Sik-K was always known for being a hit-maker (someone who makes great songs by just being on the song). Fans in Korea sometimes refer to him as the "Travis Scott" of Korea for his famously autotuned voice both in the studio and on stage. Though he is quite a large figure in Korea now, he started off humble working under another artist, Jay Park. He started under Jay Park's label AOMG and when Sik-K's contract ended he started his own independent label. This label would become KC, formed by Sik-K, HAON, JMIN, Vangdale, and later adding NOWIMYOUNG. Though just an independent label formed by one man, Sik-K, they were able to hold their own festival and take home awards as a team. Most recently, HAON won a Korean rap survival show in honor of his label and Sik-K himself.
You should be excited to see what KC does next. Where will they end up? How many more awards can they take home? Are they the future of Korea's music scene?
